Magnaflux 7HF is an oil-based black ink used for wet method magnetic particle testing. It is designed to locate fine surface and slightly subsurface discontinuities in ferrous materials. The ink is applied using an aerosol spray and is used in conjunction with magnetizing equipment. Typical defects that can be detected using 7HF include shrink cracks, welding defects, grinding cracks, quenching cracks, and fatigue cracks. When viewed in daylight, the ink provides clear black indications. It is important to clean the components before testing and to mix the ink thoroughly prior to use. The ink can be applied by spraying, immersion, or flooding, and must be kept agitated during testing. Different methods of magnetization can be used, such as the wet continuous method or the wet residual method. Clean up involves demagnetizing the part and wiping it clean with rags dampened with water or solvent.
