The Philips HeartStart FR2+ defibrillator and Agilent Technologies FR2 AEDs offer pediatric defibrillation pads specifically designed for patients under 8 years of age or weighing less than 55 lbs. These pads have built-in electronics that reduce the energy of the defibrillator’s shock from 150 to 50 joules, ensuring a safe and appropriate level of energy for children.
The Philips AEDs with pediatric pads also adjust for the patient’s chest impedance, ensuring that the correct energy level is delivered without being too high or escalated. The design of the pads is carefully crafted to make it instantly obvious that they are intended for children and infants only, even for inexperienced users in stressful situations. The packaging, graphics, and pink teddy bear-shaped connector clearly communicate their pediatric use.
These pediatric pads have a shelf life of approximately two years and are not suitable for the Forerunner models. They provide peace of mind and preparedness for treating both adults and children in emergency situations.
